Treatment Services & Modality
Kara treats clients ages 14-60 through individual sessions, family sessions and couples’ sessions. Kara offers a variety of different treatment modalities based on clients’ specific needs, by utilizing a combination of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, and when appropriate Christian Counseling. Through her experience at Rogers Behavioral Health Kara has treated and has experience working with clients who have ADHD, High functioning Autism, Bipolar, Mood disorders, Anxiety Disorders, OCD, Trauma, Eating Disorders, Disruptive, Impulse Control & Conduct Disorders, Personality Disorders Paraphilic Disorders, and other disorders.
In addition to doing traditional individual and couples therapy, Kara also offers the following specific services and treatment upon request. The follow treatments may also be recommended
For adolescent boys struggling with impulse control and behavioral issues, Kara combines DBT and CBT to assist the adolescent client in noticing triggers that lead to outbursts as well as providing families with a family sessions with and without the client present, in order to incorporate more structure and boundaries within the household. Kara also provides all members of the family psychoeducation on impersonal effective skills to foster more constructive communication. This treatment takes a minimum of 5 sessions.
For clients who want more then just to cope with their anxiety but to also decreases it. Kara provides Exposure Relapse Prevention Therapy. Kara and the client will develop a hierarchy and provide the client with exposures to target their unique struggles and decrease overall anxiety and distress. This treatment takes a minimum of 5 sessions.
For adolescents struggling with grades, school attendance, and or keeping up with schoolwork. Kara provides education evaluation to determine barriers and provide recommendations to the school to help your child be successful. This treatment takes a minimum of 2 sessions.
For individuals who have had a traumatic event, Kara can conduct Prolong Exposures to decrease PTSD symptoms related to a specific traumatic event. This treatment takes a minimum of 3 sessions.
In addition to traditional couples therapy, Kara also offers the option to meet with each client individually prior to meeting with the couple together in order to assess their individual goals for their relationship as well as review areas of communication conflict.
For parents, family members, and spouses who have a loved one with mental illness, Kara can provide individual sessions or family sessions for Support. Whether your loved one is a client of Kara’s or not, Kara can provide validation, behavior modification skills, boundary setting and interpersonal effectiveness skills to individuals whose loved one is afflicted with mental illness.
